1. Harry Potter (Panda's version) - Featuring Janet Hayden - Chapter 24

A week has passed, Janet has attended all her classes in her timetable, except flying, that will only start on their second week.

     “Hi Mom and Dad,

      How is everything back home? I am doing fine here, starting to get used to all these magical things happening around me. I attended all my classes and they are all very interesting. We had Charms first, Professor Flitwick was very nice. As the head of Ravenclaw, he hoped that we could win the House Championship this year. By the way, what is House Championship? Are we supposed to play sports or competitions? I know we collect and lose house points but how does the whole thing work?

      The Potions Professor was really scary. He said I was too pampered at home to be able to crush snake fangs properly because I was slow. I wasn’t sure if I should crush them into pieces or dust, so I slowed down to see what others have done, and he said I was a pampered child with delicate strength. Then, when Lisa asked me how much time has pass since we boiled our potion, he said he thought Ravenclaws were supposed to have enough intelligence to understand simple instructions and questioned Lisa if she has been sorted into the wrong house. I don’t like him.

      History of Magic was taught by a ghost! I think it does make sense since he has seen history itself but Professor Binns seem to be very focused into explaining that he totally ignored the time and the class. We left the class when the bell rang and he was still teaching!

      Transfiguration is very complicated; we had to turn a match into a needle in our first class. My match turned silver but it was not sharp enough to poke through cloth. Professor McGonagall said it was decent for my first try and told me to practise.

      Herbology was ok but moving plants were a bit scary. Professor Sprout showed us a plant (I forgot its name) that will strangle if you move too much.

      The Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Quirrell was very paranoid. He thought that we will be attacked any moment and his turban smelt funny, I wonder if he'd ever washed it.

     Astronomy was a slightly familiar subject, it is somewhat similar to science. The class is about planets and stars in the galaxy, hopefully I will not struggle too much here than with other subjects.

      We will be starting our flying lessons next week. Ernie told me that we will be flying on brooms. Lisa had a book about flying and the tips to master it, she will lend it to me later.

      That’s all I have got for my first week. I miss the both of you very much.
