The Life of Orphans - Chapter 15

The Life of Orphans

Chapter 15
Someone knocks on Jason's door,

Jason: Coming! (Opens the door) You are?

Voice: Forgot me already?

Jason: Hebe Tian, right?

Hebe: Bingo. But you can just call me Hebe.

Jason: Come on in.

Hebe: Actually I’m looking for Cyndi.

Jason: You are looking for Cyndi here?

Hebe: She's not in her room so I guess she might be here.

Jason: She's not here.

Hebe: Oh. Sorry to bother you.

Jason: Wait! Since I have nothing to do, I’ll help you find her.

Hebe: Really? Thanks.

Jason: I am more familiar about the place she will be than you.

Hebe: I see that.

They went looking high and low for Cyndi but she was nowhere to be seen.

Jason: Wonder where did she go? She's usually in these places.

Hebe: Anywhere else?

Jason: Let me think first. (They pass the canteen) Hey, you want ice cream? My
treat?

Hebe: Yes. Thanks but I can pay myself.

Jason: It's ok. What do you want? (Points at the ice-cream container.)

Hebe: I'll take this. (Took one)

Jason: You like that one too? It's my favourite! (Pays the man)

Hebe: Really? What a coincidence.

As they continue looking for Cyndi.

Hebe: Am I bothering you?

Jason: Huh? No. I have nothing to do in the afternoon anyway.

Hebe: Oh.

Jason: You have ice cream on your mouth. Here. (Handed her a tissue)

Hebe: Thanks. (Start wiping furiously around her mouth) [So embarrassing]

Jason: It's not there. (Took the tissue from her hand and wipe it off for her)

Hebe: (was stunned when Jason wiped her face)

Jason: Let's go there.

Hebe: (back to reality) Uh? Ok.

After a while,

Hebe: Actually it's nothing important. Let's stop looking.

Jason: You really want to stop?

Hebe: Yeah. Sorry to bother you.

Jason: Not at all. (smiles)

Hebe: Anyway thanks for helping me.

Jason: Anytime. I will walk you back to your room.

Hebe: Ok.

They reach Hebe's room,

Hebe: I'm here.

Jason: Ok. I'll go now.

Hebe: Ok. Bye.

Jason: Bye.

Hebe alone in her room (obviously),

Hebe: Well, he's cute, caring, nice... Not bad, right? Do I like him? But I just know him. Love at first sight? Nope. I seen him before already. Love at second sight then. That's so weird. Maybe it's just a mistake. Yup, just a mistake.

The Life of Orphans - Chapter 14

The Life of Orphans

Chapter 14
At the boys side,

Zax: Hey, you heard what Ray said about Cyndi? (Passes the ball to Sam)

Sam: (caught the ball) What about Cyndi?

Zax: About she was the smartest student thing.

Tony: (Caught the ball) I don't remember that. Jason, you are in the same
class with her. Don't you know that? (Threw the ball to him)

Jason: Huh? (caught the ball) I don't know. She never tell me her marks, she always says that it's very bad and then stuffed the paper into her bag.

Tony: That's it. She always says that her results were so poor that she doesn’t
want to talk about it. Right, Sam?

Sam: Huh? (Just then, Jason threw the ball towards him but he wasn't aware of
it so it knocked chest) Ouch!

Jason: Sorry! Are you ok?

Sam: I'm fine. (rubbing his chest)

Zax: What's the dream about?

Sam: What dream?

Zax: You never miss the ball.

Sam: Everyone can make a mistake.

Tony: Let's stop. Sam, what's your problem?

Sam: I... I actually know why Cyndi's lying about her results and her problem
is a serious one.

Tony: What's that?

Sam: She actually don't have any friends but us, don't you think it's a big
problem?

Zax: I thought... According to her character, she must have a lot of friends.

Jason: I don't think so; she seldom mixes with our classmates.

Tony: Maybe we should make her know more friends.

Cyndi: No need. I have friends of my own.

The guys: Whoa!

Cyndi: What?

Zax: Why are you here?

Cyndi: I'm bored, so I thought I’d just come over and look for you. So, any
programmes?

Tony: Not sure yet.

Jason: On thing for sure, we all need a bathe.

Sam: I agree. Let's go.

Cyndi: Oye, you all are going to leave me alone here?!

Zax: Then come and bathe with us. (laughs)

Cyndi: No thanks. What a stupid joke, Zax. I'll wait for you all in Jason's room.

All: Ok.

On the way to Jason room,

Voice: Cyndi!

Cyndi: Uh? Hi, Hebe.

Hebe: I just know you today and we have met three times already.

Cyndi: That means we'll be good friends.

Hebe: You can count on that. I'm in a rush now. Bye

Cyndi: Ok, bye. (after Hebe left) It's actually nice making friends, maybe what
I always thought was wrong. (Shrugs and arrived at Jason's room door) Oh
man, I didn't ask Jason for his keys!

On the guys side,

Jason: Ah!

Tony, Zax, Sam: What?

Jason: I didn't give Cyndi my keys. (holding the keys)

Zax: Don't worry; Cyndi knows her way to go in our rooms even without keys.

Tony: Yep.

The Life of Orphans - Chapter 13

The Life of Orphans

Chapter 13
Cyndi was sitting near the basketball court waiting for the guys to finish their practice.

Ray: Hello, cutie.

Cyndi ignored him.

Ray: Don't you remember me? (Sat beside Cyndi)

Cyndi move further from him.

Ray: Waiting for them? (Points at the guys) Told you not to mix with them.

Cyndi: What do you care anyway?

Zax saw what happen and nudge Sam.

Zax: Sam, look. (Facing where Cyndi is)

Sam: Let's go. (Wave at Tony and Jason and points at Cyndi)

They caught the signal and went over.

Sam: What are you doing? (Grab Ray's wrist)

Cyndi quickly stood up and stand beside them

Ray: Nothing to do with you. (Struggle to get free from Sam's grab)

Tony: You are disturbing our friend here.

Ray: Oh really. Don't you all know that Cyndi is the smartest student in her
form? What's her benefit if she mixes with all of you?
Zax: What?

Ray: Don't you all know that she was top in the whole form for the past
exams?

Cyndi: Shut up. Don't listen to him.

Ray struggled off and started cursing.

Hebe: Hey you, watch your mouth!

Ray: Hebe Tian! (Turn 2 his followers) Let's go! I'll get you all next time.

All of them: [Why is he so scared of her]

Hebe: That'll teach him. Hi, my name is Hebe Tian but you can call me Hebe.
I'm from form 5A. You all?

Cyndi: Thanks for that. I'm Cyndi, This is Sam, Tony, Zax and Jason.

Hebe: Nice to meet all of you. (Her friend called) Oh, gotta go now. Meet you
guys later. Bye.

Cyndi: Bye.

Sam and Jason: Bye.

Cyndi: Helloooo? (waving in front of Tony and Zax) Anyone home?

Tony & Zax: What?

Cyndi: She's gone already.

Zax: So?

Cyndi: So... you like her eh?

Zax: Nonsense. Let's go back and practice.

The guys went back to practice. Cyndi went back to her room.

Cyndi: (sigh) The most boring place on earth: My room! (Rolling around on her
bed)

Someone knock the door.

Cyndi: They finished their practice so soon? (opened the door) It's you?

Hebe: Why? Surprised?

Cyndi: Very. How did you know this is my room?

Hebe: Simple. Just ask. Why do you look so odd?

Cyndi: Huh? Really? Maybe it's because I never have female visitors before.

Hebe: What?! You must be kidding!

Cyndi: Do I look like I’m kidding? Umm... You've been standing there for quite
a long time, would you like to come in?

Hebe: I thought you would never ask. (Went in)

Cyndi: (closes the door) By the way, what brings you here?

Hebe: I want to know more about my new friend here.

Cyndi: Uh? Oh, ok. What would you like to know?

Hebe: Everything you can tell me.

Cyndi: That is?

Hebe: Man, you really don't have many friends, do you?

Cyndi: Apart from the guys you have met just now, you are the only one.

Hebe: You are weird but never mind. If you don't know how to start then I’ll
start. What's your full name?

Cyndi: Cyndi Wang Sin Ling. You?

Hebe: Hebe Tian Fu Zhen.

There was silence for a while.

Hebe: Umm... Let's talk about your family.

Cyndi: Huh? Why don't we talk about yours first?

Hebe: Ok. My dad is a businessman, can be considered successful. He's a
boring person, other than business, he just likes to sit around and read but he's
a great dad anyway. My mom doesn't work but sometimes she'll help my
father with his business like giving some opinions and things. I'm the only
child, so it's kind of boring because I don't have anyone else to talk to.

Cyndi: Really? I see that you have lots of friends.

Hebe: Naah, those are just normal ones, i just have this feeling that they are
my friends because that my family is rich. So, i don't really have a close
friend, one that I can really count on. Let's stop talking about this, what about
your family?

Cyndi: My family? (laughs) Those guys you saw just now are my family.

Hebe: Those are your brothers?

Cyndi: Well... can be considered are.

Hebe: What do you mean?

Cyndi: I'm an orphan.

Hebe: Uh? Sorry.

Cyndi: What's the apology for?

Hebe: Mentioning about your family. You don't really want to talk about it
right?

Cyndi: The truth is I don't really know anything about them.

Hebe: It's ok anyway. Just one more thing, are they orphans too?

Cyndi: Who?

Hebe: The guys who were with you just now?

Cyndi: Oh, them. Yup, they are. We grew up together.

Hebe: Oh, no wonder they are so protective of you.

Cyndi: There's one thing I want to ask you since just now.

Hebe: Go on.

Cyndi: Why is Ray so scared of you?

Hebe: Oh, that. Well, I happened to be his mom's favourite student. His mom
always asks me about him and I don't like lying.

Cyndi: Oh, that's why he's so scared of you. Hah, now I caught his weakness.

Hebe: I got to go now. I have something on.

Cyndi: Ok, nice knowing you.(opens the door)

Hebe: You too. Bye.

Cyndi: Bye. (closes the door) Back the boring room again.

The Life of Orphans - Chapter 12

The Life of Orphans

Chapter 12
The boys were talking as Cyndi came over,

Cyndi: Hello.

Boys: Hi.

Cyndi: We are missing of one person here.

Tony: Sam said he have to finish his project which is due tomorrow.

Cyndi: Oh.

Zax: I think that will take him forever because he’s short of something.

Cyndi: What thing?

Zax: If I’m not mistaken, he’s short of some information.

Cyndi: What information?

Zax: How should I know?

Cyndi: Umm… I have something on, see you guys later.

Tony: Ok, bye.

Jason: Wonder where is she going? I don’t remember that she has anything
on this afternoon.

Cyndi’s side,

Cyndi: (knocked at Sam’s door)

Sam: Who’s there? (Open the door) Oh, you. Come in.

Cyndi: I heard that you have some problem with your project. Anything I can
do to help?

Sam: I’m fine here. Thanks for your concern.

Cyndi: Then how’s the project going on?

Sam: Fine.

Cyndi: You continue with your work, don’t have to entertain me.

Sam: Ok.

Cyndi: (stood beside him and saw a stack of blank papers with a title on it)
Why didn’t you do this one first? (Pointing to the papers) This title comes first
than others.

Sam: Oh, this. I have a little problem with it. But don’t worry, I can handle it.

Cyndi: Ok. (Remembering the title) I won’t disturb you now. Bye. (Ran out)

Cyndi was muttering the title under her breath so that she won’t forget.

Tony: Hey, Cyndi! What’s the rush?

Cyndi: I know what Sam’s problem is. I’m going to the library.

Tony: I’ll go with you. (Ran up to her) Two heads are better than one.

Cyndi: Thanks.

The both of them spent the whole afternoon looking through books to get
notes and information.

Tony: Cyndi, it’s almost dinnertime.

Cyndi: I can skip dinner. You can go if you want to. I can handle this by
myself.

Tony: I’m not hungry. Let’s continue.

Two hours later,

Cyndi: The information about this sure is little but all added together plus
some I added in, it may help Sam finish his project.

Tony: Yup, I think so too.

Cyndi: Let’s go give it to him.

They passed the library counter,

Librarian: I can close the library now, right?

Tony: Yes. Sorry to trouble you.

Librarian: It’s ok. Did you two found what you want?

Cyndi: Yup, we found it.

They hurried to Sam’s room,

Sam: (open the door) Hello. What brings the two of you here?

Cyndi: Something that you really need. (Gave him a stack of papers)

Sam: Oh my god, you got the info. I thought I’d have to leave out this
particular part and throw some marks away. Thanks.

Cyndi: Not at all. We won’t bother you now. Bye.

Tony: Yeah, hope you will make full use of that. (Pointing to the papers)

Sam: You bet I will. These saved my life.

Tony: Ok, bye.

Sam: Bye.

As they walking away from Sam’s room,

Cyndi: Thanks for helping me. If it’s not for you, I might use up the whole day
looking for those.

Tony: No problem. I want to help Sam also. (Stomach growls) Ooopps!

Cyndi: Oh, I forgot you didn’t have dinner. Come over to my room, I have
some cup noodles.

Tony: Just what I need.

Later in Tony room,

Tony was writing his diary,

Dear Diary,
Today, I accompanied Cyndi to help Sam look for some information he badly needed for his project. Cyndi was really up to it; she even skipped dinner just to find that. But once she found everything, she was so happy......

Cyndi: Here you go. (pass him the cup noodles)

Tony: Thanks.

Cyndi: Your welcome. Besides, it was me who put you into this.

Tony: I don't mind anyway.

Cyndi: I know you won't. Besides, that's what brothers for.

Tony: Hehe, yeah.

Cyndi: You are the world's best big brother.

Now, I know that she was just treating me as her brother. Luckily, I didn't express my feelings to her or else it will be a hard situation. Sigh. Disappointed? A little but as long as she's happy, I’m happy. By the way, I am her big brother. =D

Tony closed his diary and went to sleep.

The Life of Orphans - Chapter 11

The Life of Orphans

Chapter 11
The next morning,

(Knock Knock)

Sam: (woke up and rub his eyes) Who's that? (Open the door)

Zax: How's she?

Sam: (Look at Cyndi) Still asleep. Come in.

As they walk in, Cyndi woke up.

Tony: Did we wake you?

Cyndi: (shook her head)

Sam: How are you feeling?

Cyndi: Fine. Just the wrists are still a little painful when I bend them. (Exercise
her wrist)

Zax: A good thing it's Saturday.

Cyndi: Yeah. Or else it will be hard to write in the condition.

Tony: Then let Jason write for you.

Jason, who was dreaming all along: Huh?

Zax: You're not awake yet?

Jason: Yes, I am. I am.

Cyndi: I better go back to my room now.

Sam: I'll go with you.

Cyndi: What? No need.

Tony: What if Ray is waiting for you there?

Cyndi: It's a night already. Doesn't he have anything better to do?

Zax: I doubt he has.

Cyndi: I can go by myself. It will sure look funny if you follow my back to my
room.

Sam: But...

Cyndi: Ok, i'll get going.

Tony: Be careful.

Cyndi: Ok. You guys are even naggier than girls.

Later then,

Tony and Jason are having a game of chess.

Zax: Don't the two of you have something better to do than playing chess? It's
so boring!

Tony: It is to you but it's not to us. Check!

Jason: Caught you. Check mate!

Tony: How can I lose again? Let's have another game.

Cyndi: Jason is a pro on chess. You'll lose again, Tony.

Tony: No way. I must win once.

Jason: Ok. Another game that is.

Zax: Argh! Another game?!

Sam: Hey, it's quite fun watching them play.

Cyndi: Yup.

Half an hour later,

Jason: Check- mate!

Tony: What? Aahh! I didn't see that one coming.

Cyndi: The three of us on you, Jason.

Sam: How can I miss that? Jason, You are really a pro.

Jason: I'm just lucky.

Tony: I give up. Let’s do something else. Zax?

Sam: Where is he?

Cyndi: (clears throat and points)

Tony: He's sleeping?

Jason: Is chess that boring?

Cyndi: To him, maybe.
